What caused the rise of the Plebs in Ancient Rome?

I know about the Plebian movement of the fifth and fourth centuries BC, but I don't understand why they revolted in the first place -- all I know is that the monarchy was not allowing any leeway on debts when the economy was in a downturn, but what else was there to it?
